Here are a bunch of pictures from the 1989 BMW 535i with the M30B35 engine. I pulled the engine with the plans of swapping it into a 1985 BMW 325e. Unfortunately, life throws some curve balls and requires changes to plans. Ill doing another post soon with what happened to my BMW E30 project car and other life events. Hopefully, these pics will be of use to someone doing a swap or needing reference images.
The front of the m30b35 engine. Passenger side view of the m30b35 engine. I was removing the ac and radiator. This is the driver’s side you can see the power steering reservoir, oil filter housing and BMW ABS PUMP. Here is a closer look at the BMW ABS pump. You can also see the 3.5 marking the capacity of the BMW M30B35 engine. You can also see the alternator, power steering reservoir, and brake fluid reservoir. Here I was under the car disconnecting the BMW manual driveshaft. This car had been sitting for some time so it was covered in spider webs. Another picture of the driver’s side. I wanted to remember how things went when I reinstalled it in the e30. This is the 1989 BMW 535i driveshaft where it connects to the differential. It’s relatively easy to remove. Another picture of the BMW 535i manual driveshaft This was prior to removal of the driveshaft. First, you need to remove the BMW 535I exhaust. Then the heat shield. Then you can access the driveshaft. This is the 1993 BMW 535I C-101 CONNECTOR. This connects the engine to the wire harness. You can also see the heater control valve. Another spiderweb covered picture of the 1993 BMW 535i driveshaft. Here is another interesting pic. This is the transmission and a bunch of spider webs. I was disconnecting the clutch fluid line. Another picture of the driver’s side of the Getrag 260 manual transmission. Look how pretty the 1993 BMW 535i looked. I got it for $250. The engine ran but had some issues. The car had sat in the rain and was neglected. I parted most of it out and got the engine for free. I was planning on swapping it into the E30 IN in the background. Honestly, I do not know what part this is. I think its a jumper cable terminal. This is the compartment on the 1993 BMW 535i that holds ECU and other BMW control modules. You can see where the wire harness connects to the ecu and some BMW relays. Another close up of the 1993 BMW 535i ecu compartment. I wasn’t sure where those connectors go to. Here is the ecu compartment before I removed the ecu and other control modules. The power to the ECU and wire harness comes from under the rear passenger seat. You have to pull up the seat to access the battery. Finally had the fan clutch out and was working on removing the radiator. The 1993 BMW 535i radiator. It was in good condition and I sold it on craigslist. 1993 BMW 535I ignition coil and air intake. This BMW engine bay was dirty. The coolant reservoir is located above the engine by the firewall. It’s a strange spot to put the radiator reservoir. Here you can see the radiator reservoir. A front view of the 1993 BMW 535i m30b35 engine.
